7 Podcasts We're Loving This Spring

If you’re anything like us, you likely love popping on a poddy every time you’re doing the washing, driving to work, organising your wardrobe or just simply don’t feel like watching TV.

We’ve compiled a list of some of our favourite podcasts at the moment – and yes, they’re predominantly Australian podcasts – so you can mix up who and what you’re listening to.

Shameless Podcast

One of the top-ranking podcasts in Australian podcast charts every single week, Shameless Podcast is hosted by Michelle Andrews and Zara McDonald. The two of them chat – along with their producer, Annabelle Lee – about all-things pop culture and celebrity gossip. They share their favourite recommendations every week (we’re talking books, TV, beauty products, kitchen staples, and more) and provide the light-hearted, sugary content you’re likely craving every Monday and Thursday morning.

The Imperfects Podcast

We don’t even know where to begin with this one! The Imperfect Podcast is hosted by Hugh van Cuylenberg, Josh van Cuylenberg (yes, they’re brothers) and Ryan Shelton. It’s one of the most vulnerable podcasts we’ve ever listened to, and that’s not an exaggeration. The three guys interview some of Australia’s most recognisable celebrities, as well as some not-really-recognisable everyday humans, asking them to share their stories, their fears, and to be as vulnerable with them (and their listenership) as possible. There are tears, lots of laughter, and heaps of food for thought. And we especially love their sporadic episodes with psychologist, Dr. Emily.

The Squiz

Know you probably need to stay up-to-date with the news… but you don’t really know where to start? Maybe you do know where to start but you only have 0.04576 seconds per day to actually read the news? Either way, we have the perfect podcast for you, even if you do have the time to read the news (well done, if that’s you). The Squiz is your “shortcut to being informed”. Their words, not ours. Their daily episodes are released around 6am, and they last for no longer than 12 minutes. Bite-sized current affairs delivered in language you actually understand. A game-changer for busy bees.

Mamamia Out Loud

Well, well, well, if it isn’t one of Australia’s biggest media companies! Mamamia is the home of some of the best pop culture, parenting, lifestyle and fashion news. They provide women with a platform to write, speak and be heard. Mamamia Outloud is hosted by Mia Freedman, Jessie Stephens and Holly Wainwright. The three women discuss everything from pop culture to body image, politics to parenting to TikTok trends, and it’s always entertaining to listen to them.

Scamanda

If you love true crime, you’ll love Scamanda. A story about a woman who pretended she was ill and raised over $100,000 (US, that is) for herself and her family as a result, this podcast is all about Amanda Riley – infamous scammer and con artist. It’s thrilling, a tad scary (some of our team members couldn’t listen to this one at night… so don’t say we haven’t warned you), but also super interesting. A total must-listen for crime podcast addicts.

No Filter

If you already love Mamamia Out Loud, or maybe you’re a fan of The Imperfects, then No Filter is for you. Hosted by Mia Freedman again (Editor of Mamamia), No Filter features candid conversations between Mia and a range of interesting people – some are famous, some are not. There are no themes that connect each podcast episode to the next, meaning you can skip episodes that don’t interest you without missing out on anything crucial. Handy for when you’re looking for some low-commitment entertainment that’ll get you thinking.

We Are Lonely

This one’s a little different to the others we’ve mentioned. We Are Lonely is a podcast by Medibank (yes, the health insurance company!). It’s a limited, 6-part series that demystifies loneliness and the effect it has on our society. They speak to those who are lonely, those who help those who are lonely, and talk about why loneliness is so common in today’s day and age. It’s sad but heartwarming, optimistic yet upsetting. And we love, love, LOVE Myf Warhurst as a host.

Have you listened to any of these podcasts? Maybe you’re already as obsessed with all 7 as we are, or maybe you’ve never heard of any of them! We’d love to know your thoughts in the comments below – and if you have any others to add to our list, feel free to shoot them through.
