We recently wrote a Bon Blog on all things caring for your leather bags, wallets and accessories, but what about your nylon goodies? We couldn’t leave our cute lil’ nylon friend out, so we’ve written another whole guide on how to best look after your nylon bags (ie. Your Go! Crossbody Bag and/or Mini Go! Crossbody Bag).
First things first: Do nylon bags get dirty easily?
The best part about nylon is that it’s super durable. As a result, it does a pretty good job resisting water, dirt and damage. However, all non-black (and even then) bags can get dirty or damaged if you don’t look after them properly, so ensuring you keep your nylon bags out of direct sunlight and away from abrasive surfaces is key. Be sure to treat you dark-coloured or denim clothing if they’re prone to rubbing off on other bags as that’ll probably be the first thing that you’ll pick up on. There are various solutions including vinegar or other remedies.
How can I protect my nylon bag?
If you’re looking for some added protection on top of keeping your bag out of direct sunlight and away from abrasive surfaces, then you might want to consider using Collonil’s Vario Leather & Nylon Waterproofer Spray. This spray will provide a little extra protection from dirt and discolouration.
Looking for the best results possible? We’d recommend applying 2-3 coats of the spray, allowing it to dry between each coat. Be sure to also protect or clean any hardware after spraying. After your final coat, allow the bag to dry completely before using it again (this can take ~45 minutes).
Is nylon waterproof?
Technically some nylons are treated to be waterproof with a coating or TPU layer, but anything with seams has little holes punched into it by a sewing machine…so it’s best to deem it water resistant. Our Go! Crossbody Bags and Mini Go! Crossbody Bags are made with waterproofed material, so your contents are pretty safe If you’re caught in the rain. Not so much if you submerge the bag under water.
Our nylon bags also feature gold and gunmetal hardware – so we’d always recommend drying your bag with a cloth) if they do get wet to avoid any potential damage.
How do I clean my nylon bags?
If you find your nylon bag gets a little dirty over time , we’d recommend spot cleaning your bag gently with a soft, damp cloth. You can gently handwash your bags using mild soap and water, but be careful not to submerge your bag for long so as to avoid damage to the hardware plating.
